CarbonROM back with Android 7.1.1 for Nexus 6P, Pixel & more

For those of you who are well versed with custom ROMs, you might have heard of CarbonROM. It was pretty popular around the time when Android 4.4 KitKat was the latest Android version. This was the go to ROM for devices that came with heavy skins. CarbonROM has made a comeback to the world of third-party ROMs with Android 7.1.1 for Google Pixel, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z5 and NVIDIA Shield tablet. After the demise of CyanogenMod, the return of CarbonROM is like the light at the end of a tunnel.

If you’re wondering why install a custom ROM, here are a few reasons :

  • Get the latest version of Android.
  • Replace manufacturer skins with stock version of Android.
  • Eliminates bloatware.
  • Allows for additional features and system tweaks.
  • Extend the life of your phone.

The weekly versions for the devices are now live and users can simply download and flash the ROM. As of now, CarbonROM is undergoing an overhaul and is in its early stages of development. Users may therefore experience some bugs and issues.

Apart from giving a Vanilla Android experience, some of the noteworthy features of CarbonROM (for tablets) include Substratum Theme Engine Support, Carbon fibers and OTA updater. Have you tried out this ROM? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
