ClockWorkMod (CWM) Touch Recovery For LG Optimus L5

The L-series from LG don’t seem to get too much attention from the developers as there have been no ROMs for these devices yet except the CM9 ROM for LG Optimus L3 that still has some issues with the display drivers. While a few developers are generous enough to pay attention to these devices, Chacha_Ivanov from has developed CWM Touch recovery for LG Optimus L5. Though you don’t have any ROMs for this device, you can still use CWM to make nandroid backups, to wipe cache, dalvik cache and perhaps do a factory rest when your phone isn’t booting up.

[box_light]Please note that this process voids the warranty of your device. We request you to backup all data on your phone using our complete backup guide because you may be asked to do a factory reset. We are not responsible for any data loss or device failure resulting from this tutorial but this would be a rare case![/box_light]

Step to Unlock Bootloader and Install CWM on LG Optimus L5

Please read the comment by Markus before you try this.

  1. Download Unlocked_bootloader_17-02-2013.rar and CWM6_24-03-2013.rar
  2. Extract the content of Unlocked bootloader rar file to get the file emmc_appsboot.bin. Place this file in your SD card. Do not place it in any folder, just place it into the SD card.
  3. Extract the CWM6 rar file to get recovery.img file. Place it in your SD card the same way as you did in the previous step.
  4. Turn on USB Debugging on your phone and connect it to the PC via USB cable.
  5. I assume you have downloaded the ADB files to your PC as given in the requirements section above.
  6. Open the folder that contains the ADB files. On windows, Left Shift + Right click and select “Open Command Prompt here”. This is to ensure that you open Command prompt window in the location where you have the ADB files.
  7. Issue the following commands in Command Prompt (hit Enter after each line)
    adb shell
  8. Superuser will popup on your phone. Just tap on “Grant access” button.
  9. If you wish to, you can make a backup of the stock bootloader and recovery using the following two commands:
    dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/emmc_appsboot.bin.bak
    dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/sdcard/recovery.img.bak
  10. Now to unlock the bootloader, enter the following command:
    dd if=/sdcard/emmc_appsboot.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
  11. To flash recovery, issue the following command:
    dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
  12. To boot into recovery, enter the following command:
    reboot recovery
  13. Your phone will boot into recovery mode. You can navigate using Volume buttons and select using Power button.
  14. To boot into recovery mode without any command, just power off the phone and restart it by pressing volume down and power on at the same time, then immediately followed by holding the home button. Refer the screenshot below:

      The solution !!!!!!!!!!
Enable USB debug (before your phone reboots)………. very fast!
you must have patched you phone with recovery (mmcblk0p17) and boot (mmcblk0p5) partition
This file is extracted from the russian firmware……. is the bootloader!!!
I try this process with my phone (lg e612f)…… and no more reboots
copy the file to the sdcard

      run from ADB

      adb shell
      dd if=/sdcard/immcblk0p9 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
      reboot recovery

      enjoy…… your phone is unlocked!!!!!!!

  • Rushabh Shah

all the steps worked fine. But after reboot recovery i got some cwm options i was trying to select some option till the time i went to select option the phone is just restarting. Please help me.

  • Sarah

I kept getting a reboot problem until I installed the proper .bin file for my phone (I have the E617G, which is supposed to be the same as the E610). So this worked for me:

However, I can’t mount the SD card while in CWM recovery. I tried to install a .zip with adb sideload in recovery, and that won’t work either. I can do adb sideload while the phone is in the OS, but not recovery.

    Any ideas?

    • Sarah

Okay, so I needed another CWM img file. I found a zip compatible with the E617G, and flashed with with ADB while in the OS. I used, but I don’t remember where I got it. I took the .img file from the zip and used that for these instructions.

I found this thread, and it looks like all information can be gleaned from there:
