When we flash a Custom ROM, you must have noticed that most of them do not come with the official Google Apps most of us love. This leaves us confused as we expect to have Google Apps pre-built and first time ROM-flashers are confused what to follow next. Luckily for us, Google Apps and Services (Gapps) can be flashed easily from the custom recovery.
With the release of Android 7.1, various AOSP ROMs have popped up, including Cyanogenmod 14 (CM14) based on 7.1. You can follow these steps to obtain Gapps for your favorite 7.1 ROM.
Downloading the GApps package for Android 7.1 Nougat
You can download your desired variant depending on your processor variant down below.
Installing GApps on a device using TWRP
- Download your desired variant choosing from the list above and copy the zip file to your device’s Internal Storage.
- Reboot your device to recovery mode using the suitable hardware-key combo of your device.
- Tap Install and locate the zip file you copied. Tap the zip file and you should be prompted to “Swipe to Install”. Proceed and you should now be installing your GApps package.
- Reboot your device to System and enjoy the official Google Apps!
Note: In some custom ROMs, you are required to install GApps immediately after flashing the ROM. In this case, flash the ROM first and then flash GApps immediately after that (i.e. do not reboot to System without flashing GApps).
We have now successfully flashed GApps on our device! If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section below.
