iVooMi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has recently entered the Indian market. They’ve launched two smartphones so far i.e, the iVooMi Me 1 and the iVooMi Me1+ at INR 3999 and INR 4999 respectively. Considering the surreal price tag of the iVooMi Me1+, let’s see if the phone is too good to be true;
The iVooMi Me1+ features a plastic body construction with well-rounded corners and edges. The device is 9.8 mm thick and weighs 130 grams. The phone’s back is smooth and scratches might be an issue. The back camera is located on at the top at the center. The volume rockers + Power button is located on the left side of the device. The buttons are well placed and clicky. It has capacitive buttons located in the front for navigation. These buttons can be a bit unresponsive.
iVooMi has decided to stick with a similar 5″ HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display with 2.5 D curved glass on top. It is understandable that iVooMi had to compromise on the display considering its price but the display leaves more to be desired as in this era of smart phone, 1080p is the base line. Otherwise, the display has passable viewing angles and looks about fine outdoors.
It sports a 8 MP primary camera with LED flash and a 5 MP front camera. There isn’t much that can be said about the photo quality except that it’s sufficient. Considering the price, we can’t expect much from the camera.
Flanking the top of the device is the micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Preferably, both would’ve been at the bottom for symmetry.
On the wireless side of things, the iVooMi Me1+ supports 4G VoLTE . VoLTE is being pushed rapidly in countries like India, especially from carriers like Jio.
WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth are present. It also includes a FM tuner, so if you’re in the mood for tuning into a nearby FM Station while travelling, this is a nice addition.
Hardware and storage
The iVooMi Me 1+ comes with a Quad core 1.2 GHz processor. It boasts 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM expandable up to 128 GB. Performance might be a bit laggy here and there but considering the price, we can’t complain.
The phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is a downer, but may soon receive Android 7.0 Nougat update. The software appears a bit different from stock Android but otherwise feels the same.
The device has a 3000 mAh removable battery that should last an entire day.
When you consider the price of the phone, it has quite impressive specifications. The phone does have a cheap and plastic like feel to it i.e, don’t expect much from the build quality aspect of the device or software for that matter. However, if you’re looking for a decent phone that’s extremely cheap, this is your best bet. Though there are other phones such as the Gionee P5W and Micromax Canvas Fire 5 Q386 priced under INR 5000, the iVooMi Me1+ trumps them all.
