While Facebook is looking forward to update their Messenger app, their social rival Google+ is one step ahead with Google’s SVP of Engineering Vic Gundotra announcing a slew of new features that have been added to the Google+ app for Android. The new version is 4.2 and the update is rolling out on the Play Store. If you don’t see the update yet, you may download Google+ 4.2 APK from the link at the bottom of this post, thanks to Android Police.
With the new update, Google+ photos is now called only photos and the app has new icons and a new UI with some interesting features to keep you coming back to the app. The new UI has a slide out menu that shows you Photos, Videos, Auto Awesome and Trash.
The Auto Awesome Movie maker is a new cool feature included in Google+ that creates a video using your photos, videos and music files which you can share instantly after the video has been created.
Here is an example movie created using Auto Awesome Movie maker:
Browsing around photos is now much easier and has a new slide-out animation. The previous version of Google+ did not feature any animation while browsing photos.
Not only the animation, you can now browse around photos stored in your device using the Photos app by Google+. Previous local photo browsing wasn’t a feature of Google+ photos.
A new share UI has been added to photos which makes sharing so easy. But unfortunately this UI is available only for photos and not for regular posts. For other posts, you need to go to menu and copy the link of the post to share it like you did previously.
You can also copy text from posts, reply to comments and report comments in the new UI. A few more minor changes have been made to the UI. See it yourself by downloading the APK file from the link below:
