OPPO recently held an event in Bangalore, India to unveil their brand new smartphone, the OPPO A57. The OPPO A57 is priced at Rs. 14,990 and is directly competing with the likes of Motorola, ASUS, Xiaomi in this price bracket. OPPO’s main focus here is the camera and the flagship specs offered at this price range.
- Screen: 5.2 inches, 1280×720 display
- Camera: Primary – Sony IMX258, f/2.2 aperture, 13MP, LED Flash. Front camera – 16MP, f/2.0 aperture with OPPO’s Beautify 4.0 and Screen Flash technology.
- Processor: Qualcomm MSM8940 1.4GHz Octa-Core Processor
- RAM: 3GB
- Storage: 32GB (22GB available to user)
- Battery: 2900mAh (non-removable)
- OS: ColorOS 3.0 (based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow)
- Slots: Dual nano-SIM, separate microSD Card slot.
Getting the specs out of the way, OPPO’s custom features for the A57 like Beatify 4.0 and Screen Flash technology for photos are included here. Similar to their previous devices, the main selling point for OPPO is the selfie-camera. There are also modes where the camera blurs the background, putting the subject in full focus. OPPO is also touting the palm shutter function, where you can show five on the palm of your hand to trigger the shutter, allowing you to get a more stable shot. The primary camera uses a 13MP Sony IMX258 sensor and uses Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) which reduces the focus time to as little as 0.1 seconds. You can judge the picture quality yourself by the sample images attached.
Coming to the OS, it looks like OPPO is sticking with their ColorOS 3.0 which is based on Android Marshmallow 6.0. This is disappointing as Android Nougat has been out for quite a while now. Performance is snappy with the Qualcomm Octa Core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. It looks like OPPO has hit a homerun with the connectivity. The A57 house a triple slot tray which can be used for inserting two nano-SIMs as well as microSD card upto 256GB.
All this is housed in a gold unibody design which is lightweight and thin and is curved off at the edges. The 5.2 inch screen is protected with a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which are also rounded at the corners for a good finish. The fingerprint scanner resides below the display and OPPO claims that it will even work with damp fingers.
