Install CM10 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM on Sony Xperia J

This mid-ranger along with it’s siblings(viz. the Miro and the Tipo) has got all the potential to cause some serious damage to the market share of the current leader as the phone itself has got some hereditary class and expectations backing it up. The Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon chipset and a complete mid range multimedia suite along with a promised Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, this dude has got something to say. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean? We have this Cyanogenmod10 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM for your new Xperia J which has been developed under the FreeXperia Project (FXP) which is a group of developers who work hard and harder to bring the latest of Cyanogenmod releases to each and every possible Xperia phone that could be provided with the support.

Pre-Installation Tasks:

  1. Back up all apps using ASTRO File Manager. You can get the APK files using ASTRO and later restore it. Rooted users can use Titanium Backup which also backs up data along with the apps.
  2. Back up all contacts to SD card.
  3. Backup SMS on Android.
  4. Backup call log on Android.
  5. Have minimum 60% charge on your phone else you might get stuck while the update process is running on your device.
  6. Remove any security or Anti-virus app if you have them installed.
  7. Enable USB Debugging. This can be don by Settings>Applications>Development and making sure that USB Debugging is checked.

Steps to Install CM10 Jelly Bean ROM on your Sony Xperia J:

  1. Download the zip file from the original thread.
  2. Copy the downloaded zip to the root folder of your sdcard.
  3. Boot into recovery mode.
  4. In the recovery mode, you can navigate using the volume buttons and select using menu/home button.
  5. Make a nandroid backup in recovery mode.
  6. Use these to navigate and select “Wipe” and then “Wipe data” and also consider wiping Dalvik cache if you don’t want to face “Low on memory” issues.
  7. Now, navigate through the interface choose “select zip from SD card” and select the zip file which we downloaded earlier.
  8. After it gets completed, you can flash the GAPPS file in a similar fashion and get back using the back button and select “Reboot” and you are done!.

      Download it from and flash the zip file in the same way as you flash the ROM. No need to wipe anything.

    i installed this rom on my xperia j, but for some rease i experience very big lag sometimes, while other times it runs smooth. Also the notification bar stops sometimes, i will have to reboot every time to fix it. Is this normal? or have I done something wrong?

      Boot to CWM and go to Advanced>Fix permissions. Hope that solves it!

          We already have your email id from the form you submit but I don’t have an Xperia J to make a video. You can wait for an official Jelly Bean though.

        i have the same case with alan, a lots of lag on my xperia J wen i install CM10 ,,,ive also done the fix permission but still have lot’s of lag on my device such as the menu and doesnt work and move smoothly and when you open the settings it takes 3 to 5sec to be open same with other applications…what else should i do to enjoy CM10 on my device?thank u pls reply

          Actually Rab, it is an unofficial build, which people do in their free time. Initially you don’t get a fully working ROM but later, they update the ROM and solve all bugs 🙂
