Being the smallest member of the new Optimus line up by LG, the LG Optimus L3 E400 has been generating a wholesome hype amongst both the youth as well as those who were a few buck short to make it to an Android handest that coupled good performance courtesy the snappy 800Mhz processor ticking along with 384Mb of RAM with the capable enough Adreno 200 GPU which is capable enough to take care of all the eye-candy that the QVGA resolution could deliver.
The phone has been shipping around with Android 2.3 Gingerbread topped with LG UI 2.0, but courtesy it’s inbuilt gigabyte of storage, this little guy has made it to the list of the very few entry level handsets to receive the healthy enough CM9 ICS ROM from the Cyanogenmod team. Yes! indeed, we are talking about some official Cyanogenmod9 support for your little droid which is enough of icing to make the taste go further unmatched to all of it’s competitors.
About the ROM:
CM9 or Cyanogenmod9 is one of the most stable set of off-market firmware from the masters for the cause, the Cyanogenmod team. What is so special about Cyanogenmod ROMs ? well, you can’t answer this till you experience it. It definitely gives a fresh breath to your droid while keeping the real feel of keeping the Android experience raw enough to keep in line with the originality clause. CM9 is based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich along with a lot of tweaks and customisable settings which allows access to some capabilities of your Android device to take the experience to the next level which stock ROMs can’t.
To fix blurry screen issue on this ROM, flash this kernel.
[box_light]If you wish to run the stock ROM smoothly, you can check this custom kernel. As per a comment made by our reader Chingiz, this ROM has been made usingIf you are done with that, let us proceed with our tutorial.
Pre-Installation Tasks
- Back up all apps using ASTRO File Manager. You can get the APK files using ASTRO and later restore it. Rooted users can use Titanium Backup which also backs up data along with the apps.
- Back up all contacts to SD card.
- Backup SMS on Android.
- Backup call log on Android.
- Have minimum 60% charge on your phone else you might get stuck while the update process is running on your device.
- Remove any security or Anti-virus app if you have them installed.
- Enable USB Debugging. This can be don by Settings>Applications>Development and making sure that USB Debugging is checked.

For installation of ClockworkMod Recovery, follow this link.
Steps to Install Official CM9 ICS ROM on LG Optimus L3 E400 :
- Download the Official CM9 ICS ROM zip file from the original download page.
- Copy the downloaded zip to the root folder of your sdcard.
- You can boot into ClockworkMod recovery by turning off your phone and pressing the Volume Down button + Menu button + Power button simultaneously. An easier method is to use the Quick Boot (Reboot) App..
- In the recovery mode, you can navigate using the volume buttons and select using menu/home button.
- Make a nandroid backup in recovery mode.
- Use these to navigate and select “Wipe” and then “Wipe data” and also consider wiping Dalvik cache if you don’t want to face “Low on memory” issues.
- Now, navigate through the interface choose “select zip from SD card” and select the zip file which we downloaded earlier.
- After it gets completed, you can flash the GAPPS file in a similar fashion and get back using the back button and select “Reboot” and you are done!.
Holla! you’re home. If you have followed this tutorial by the lines, you must be enjoying Official CM9 ICS on you little Optimus L3.
Please make a note that this is an official ROM from the Cyanogenmod team, so if you facing any bugs, you can directly report to them as they’ll try their best to get all bugs fixed as soon as they can( don’t worry they are the best at it

For some reason, my version of CWM does not use the home button for select. Instead, I had to press the power button.

The tutorial clearly says that you need to backup everything before you proceed!
What is GAPPS mean?
Gapps is the zip file flashing which you will be able to add your Google account to the device!
The only problem with the rom is that you can't normaly boot into it. If you have shutdown your phone and want to Ger IT on again, you Need to boot into recovery hand select reboot systeem now. Beide that it is a very need and. Stable rom.

You should have made a backup before wiping data! You can restore them using Titanium Backup
Unable to boot into recovery mode to install GAPPS !!!!!!! plz help..!
Huh? How did you install the ROM then?
Type your comment here.Hi i just want to clarify about the compatibility of the version of this rom..
does it recieve notification icons from the messaging and phone?
How does the icon labels looks like, fuzzy?
About the video cam from the camera, when you gradually zoom in out during recording, does it restart?
The music(apollo) in the lock screen, does it changes the wallpaper and turns black and it overrides the clock?
Does the keyboard looks neat and easy to type?
That is all i remember for now,
<—Installed ics cm9 rom but put back the stock rom due to incompatibilities and issues i met…
And also during charging when the phone is turned off, does it shows lg icon?
and this should be installed some boat file thingy to avoid flashing white screen and shows battery when rebooted?
Btw i appreciate your hardworks ..
It's an official CyanogenMod ROM, you may consider posting in the CyanogenMod forum asking them for improvements.
HI!
) It seems that the Clockwork for my LG Optimus L3 doesn't work. I tried everything. cleaning up everything and stuff. Rooting it over and over again, installing the CWM and when I reboot while pressing Power+Volume Down+ Home button, it just show the recovery and proceed to opening my device. Secondly, i tried the Quick Boot, when I select BOOTLOADER, my phone just show me a bunch of codes. I don't understand, I followed every step correctly. Please help.
Did you try using ROM Manager?
I haven't sorry for the late reply. I have a hard time doing it, because we don't have Wi-Fi at home. Any suggestions on how to install CWM?
Here is the CWM installation tutorial  ;http://www.hackmyandroid.com/install-clockworkmod-recovery-cwm-on-lg-optimus-l3-e400/1605
and BTW I downgraded my phone to v10D, hoping it'll work. But I guess it didn't.
And now, my phone won't open.
)
MY Screns color has messed up after installing the CM9 ROM. Pls Help!!!
what do i do now ??
I've installed that rom, I was beatiful graphically, but that version was, a little messed with my device, the play store doesn't work, it has no file manager. the headphones doesn't work. and too much other thing that leads to me to get back on my old 2.3.6, terrible awful if you compare it with the graphics of the rom, but infinity stable.(I know I can post that on their own forums, sorry If I bother you, I just want you to know this.)
but thanks anyway it was a good experience, maybe if in a not far future comes out a more stable and functional version of this rom, surely I will install it.
We always welcome feedback about ROMs because it helps other readers to know about it. Yes, there will be a stable one soon.
Thanks
How soon?I mean how long we have to wait?I have heard Lalit that in the next Nightly we are geting enabled hardware analog FM Radio just like the one from the original Stock ROM OS.
why is my screen looks blury? when using cm9?
Only CyanogenMod Team can answer that :/
Okay, here is the fix for it http://www.hackmyandroid.com/fix-blurred-screen-issue-on-cyanogenmod-9-for-lg-optimus-l3-e400/4156
You wiped data, so you will not have those apps. If you have a backup, you can restore them using Titanium Backup app!

Hello sir! I've installed it and it worked! Thanks for that but my question is that how can you fix the screen? it seems to be blurry and has a high value of contrast. Also when I tried to install miui v4. -.-
Here's a link to it.. .http://www.androidworld.it/forum/lg-optimus-l3-259/%5Brom%5D-porting-miui-us-v4-miuiv4icsmixed-lg-e400-75467-print/

Hello sir, i'd like 2 ask if for example while rooting my lg e400 there comes an unexpected errors., will the phone can be revived by a hard reset? Coz i've heard that if this happens, the phone will become useless as in broken.
Thank you so much, any reply will be much appreciated
[email protected]
If you face any problem you can let me know. There is an unbricking tutorial on this site.
I can't find play store to download apps on the phone, how do I get whatsapp etc ?
You need to flash Gapps from here http://goo.im/gapps
I also would like to add my gmail account for my contacts
i tried re installing cm9 ics using your process… but is says, installation aborted….. i want to re-install ics because i have problem in opening it… when i click the power button… there's a battery logo that seems to look that im charging but im not.. and its very annoying to open up the phone from being totally shut down… and trying to open it up several times… and is hangs occasionally. but over all… its good…
for me when i try to got into recovery mode, some package is loading something like unpacking and then it just restarts and there is just a ragular android 2.3 but with all deleted files
Did you install CWM using the method I posted?
I tried rooting my e400 on a Mac last week but it didn't work (i guess it had something to do with the drivers) so this weekend i used my girlfriends windows laptop and everything worked like a charm, installed CM9 without a problem and installed GAPPS, it works really smooth (and i have more space for apps) the only thing i can't get to work is USB Mass Storage… anyone know how to get it to work?
[edit]
I seem to have some signal loss draining my battery faster (searching for a network), it appears to only happen when my phone is asleep…
The CM9 ROM is in nightly stage, not stable yet. You may also try this http://www.hackmyandroid.com/lg-optimus-l3-e400-g…
i dont understand the 8th point.. can u please explain
Gapps is used to associate a Google account with your device and get Play Store working. You can download gapps from http://goo.im/gapps
Battery drain went away after a few days (no idea why) and android file transfer did the job getting files to my phone, perfectly happy now with CM9
I did get the reboot booting to a screen with a big white battery a few times but that's no biggie (i knew it could happen being a nightly), just hold power, menu and volume down button and it reboots normally
I don't think i'll put MIUI on my phone, this CM9 works great
Thanks for this great how-to
You'll need the file for CM9 (the third from the top i believe)
( http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip ), put the zip on your sd card and install it from ClockworkMod recovery (just the same way you did the rom)
i updated my phone to ics but when I power off my phone and tried to turn on, and its not turning on. it shows LG logo and turns off itself.
Looks like it is bootlooping, you may try to unbrick it and give it another shot.
Plz make the rom stable…
pls help me…..the same problem in my phone lg l3
An update from the CyanogenMod should fix this.
it so blurry and high value of contrast….
I have the same problem here. Can someone tell us how to reduce the contrast? It blinds me. Sorry bad english.
Thank's.. Useful article… I have a LG Optimus L3 e400… I'll try to flash it.. Thanks
Just to inform you that is released CM10 JB Unoficiall Alfa on LGSwift Site for LG Optimus L3 E400.And I have tested it tryed to install it an at the end of the instalation got the message instalation aborted and picture with knock down open dead Android and above him red triangle with black"!" in it fortunately I didn't reboot but I did just completely did all format and wipe procesess and reinstall the latest ICS CM9 Oficiall ROM OS and now my Android is fine. All sistems are functional and functioning properly.
Here is the linh where you can find CM10 JB for LG Optimus L3 E400 http://www.lgswiftl3.tk/
Please let me know when it is stable
JB CM10 is remowed because of uninstability.
Can u upload CM9 for L3E-405……??????
We don't make ROMs, we just write about them. This ROM has been made by the CyanogenMod team.
Why it is so blurry? How to Reduce Contrast? Thanks
It is because of the display drivers. Check the paragraph under "Abut the ROM"
Hey dude, i have a problem with the recovery mode. if i reboot it with recovermode it wont appear anything on screen except the logo of the LG. my phone was rooted. my only problem is just that. so can you help me with that? Thank you and have a nice day.
Did you read the comment quoted at the end of the article? You need to press the buttons that way.
Step 4 above – I had do navigate differently – vol+/- navigated up and down, but I had to press the "Power" button to action a command. The menu/home button did not work.
Hi, this is my first time to post here but i really need help, I installed ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.4.5 on my LG Optimus L3 E400, I used ROM Manager to install it. but then sometime a while ago, i accidentally selected Update Software on my phone software update option, Now I was stuck at the Clockworkmod recovery screen. I panicked and wipe data factory reset, but still it goes back to CWM. then I tried backup and then restored it afterwards it said restore complete with no error but still goes back to recovery. I also tried KDZ updater with no luck so far. I also tried wiping up everything and restore with no success..Please help
Did you succeed in the KDZ process? What happened after that?
no i have tried KDZ also.
but problem is same…every time boot in clockworkmod only.
and then i try adb..
but not succed…
with adb i can only use one command
"adb reboot-bootloader"
after reboot device does not respond…
You should do it this way – push the three buttons and when you felt the phone vibrates (its just only half a second, i guess) release the buttons right before the LG logo appears.. it will take you to an android unpacking a box screen.. wait for it to finish and your phone will reboot and will now work fine with stock rom.
thanks i'll try……
Dont install this ROM ! the graphics are TERRIBLE ! and you might have a hard time restoring the original ROM ! :'(
Did you read the highlighted lines Goutam has written under "About the ROM" section? It explains about the graphics issue that you are facing. I request you to read the entire article before leaving any feedback.
yes i actually did but thought i might be lucky enough to not have this problem >.>
Thanks for the tutorial btw ! ^^
my problem is that i acn either acces the internal memory or the external memory but not both .. please help
What happens when you try to access both and how are you trying to access?
i istalled ol file manager and when i try to access external SD it displays it as an empty folder .. i returned to emergency mode and i mounted external SD but that resulted to the internal memory not bieng accesible …. and when i go to storage settings i can only access either one memory and the other one is mounted and visible but you cannot acces it .. just like i cant set it to mass storage when i connect to a PC
I don't know how you can mount SD card from Emergency mode. Try to mount the SD card on a PC using a Card reader and see if it is recognizable.
ive tried that and its accesible on a card reader but not on the phone
Use media storage option is the similar like mass storage in stock rom.
sorry but it's not working….
and which three buttons ??
plz i tried all…
Sorry, it is vol.down+home key+power button
can i delet some of the files of system??
if yes than which files i should change or delet??
or can i remove CWM from device with 'adb shell'.??
it's not working…….
Can you remove network lock with custom rom or firmware or some other program
No you can not.
Has anyone tried to modify CameraApp or preferences in media_profiles file? Movies' quality in CM is bad but in Stock Rom is ok :/
I tried to root my LG E400 phone because I am facing "memory full problems" when I install more apps to this phone. the 1GB internal memory and SD Card upto 32GB seems lame in this hand set and no firmware update at his time from LG. But the main problem is I can't root with any of the methods mentioned in websites. Its giving this message "link failed permission denied". Please help I am stuck with this stock rom of LG
When do you get this error?
I get this error every time I click run.bat of the LG Optimus L3 Root Tool while trying to root my phone and all the time it displays this error in the command window and phone restarts. I tried all the Root Tools available in most web sites but none seemed to work. I heard HTC has this issue with some kind of NAND Lock or S-ON or something. My handset firmware version is V10g. Phone is not rooted and running on stock ROM.
Kumar try with SuperOneClick v1.7 to perform root procedure.
Yes Boris ur advice worked and it was rooted at last
I rooted the phone with SuperOneClick Root v1.7 using “rage against the cage” method and it was rooted smoothly without any trouble. Thanks Boris thanks a lot.
This is the new ICS Cyanogen Mod 9 oficiall based ROM so there when you install it and boot it for the first time look is no nothing diferent than original LG Optimus L5 and i have also preinstalled Bravia Engine 2 Virtual Grafic Card and driver and htc Beats Audio Virtual Sound Card and Driver. Please test this rom for me.Untill I reroot my model again for the second time reinstal the latest version CWM ROM Manager. Please very nicely here is the link where you can see it get it"http://www.mediafire.com/?62mh219de962c60

I have the same problem. First I couldn't root it, I had to do a factory reset. When I go into recovery, I get the old software and nothing else. Apps are deleted, but there are no Wipe options whatsoever.
Did you actually install CWM on your phone or not? I doubt if you recognize which mode is called as the recovery mode.
I tried again today. Rooted the phone, then I used the ROM manager, clicked FlashclockwordMod Recovery, chose the phone model and clicked ClockwordMod 2x. Then I clicked reboot into recovery (I tried with the Home/Volume Down/Power buttons too) When it reboots I get the old android without applications.

You need to install CWM.
i have installed it but cmd screen shows some file failure
A screenshot would be great
to fix the bug with the screen resolution and color problems, we need the drivers display of the stock GB ROM v10b. You can get them in stock kernel from v10b firmware. Just extract them and port it for ICS. I wanted to do it, but I no longer have my LG E400, but still gets the hint for devs and users of this device.
i cant connect my e400 to pc , i dont know why it cant be detected. i have tried the reinstalling the driver but still doesnt work. when i turn off my phone and remove batt then connect to pc , it just continuously restarts
i have installed ics on my phone , but i had this high contrast. so now i want to go back to the stock fw but i cant detect my phone when i connect it to computer. i tried the guide wherein disable it in the manage devices but i cant see the LG modem there. help pls.
hi. how long does it take the phone to boot after the install. mine has not yet done so and it has been 15min.
If it takes too long, wipe everything from CWM and reboot again!
i change it againg to ICS but there is no google play store ..
Download gapps zip file from http://goo.im/gapps to get Play Store
Please help me, after install CM9, the screen's color go wrong and over constract, i can't see anything, number, icon, text….

thank you all for your help. my phone finally booted. the problem now is that the phone is too dark to see anything and the graphics are nt that good. is there any other version that i can install to ma l3 e400. if so kindly post a link so that i can do so.
That is because of the new display drivers used in your phone. You can roll back to stock anyway.
hallo,
can anyone kindly post a link to where i can download the lg optimus l3 e400 stock firmware. all the links that i have seen so far either lead to sites that are no longer available or sites that dont have download links.
Lalit there is a new unoficiall upgraded finall version of ICS Cyanogen Mod and it is call Annobox V1.It is great please try it.http://lgswiftl3.tk/
http://www.mediafire.com/?xvd1tdtpm271ndg
This is finall and upgraded unoficiall version of Cyanogen Mod.At the moment I use Annobox ICS Cyanogen Mod ROM OS.And this ROM have 1GHz overclocked kernel preinstalled. And just maybe have an gapps preinstalled. But you still have flashing gapps ready for installing for just in case.
Someone who is having a new LG Optimus L3 with new display drivers must test this ROM before I update the post with this ROM.
My phone is bought on August 2012.And came with V10g original Gingerbread Stock ROM.So I update it first day to the V10h next month to the V10j and now to the latest V10j.So I have finishing testing of Annobox V1 ICS moded oficiall Cyanogen Mod 9.It have 1GHz overclocked kernel preinstalled. At the begining is laging in speed performance but I was fixed this using iobit Advanced Mobile Care, iolo Auto Memory Manager(AMM),FK Task Killer and onexuan One Power Guard and Battery Doctor. And Now working fast and very smooth in high performance like Dragon.Trust Me Brother Lalit.
Looks like your phone has old device drivers? Did the official CM9 work properly on your phone?
Yes it work nice and smooth. But should I flash the latest device drivers or not?
Yeah you should
Brian Opiyo here is the links where you can take look and download get the Stock ROm back for this model.http://lgswiftl3.tk/
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ke59oa92iqk3bqn
After download copy the stock rom into your sd card and boot your device into the ClockWorkMod ROM Manager find it and install it exactly to the same way like Cyanogen Mod or the all others Custom ROM.And if you want to permanetly unroot it just do the Hard Reset and do the update over the LG PC Suite. And if you want to root it again just download and install on your PC SuperOneClick 1.7 only work and SuperOneClick 1.7 Exploit option set to the”rageagainstthecage”after you conect your phone over the USB and on the phone chose PC Suite and on your phone activate USB Debug and than you will sucsesfully reroot your phone. That is the only way to reroot it.Spectrum Root and Unlock Root canot reroot your phone never again because shell permisions isues.Only SuperOneClick V1.7 can reroot it how many times you want.I already tested and checked and reoverchecked. So I am telling you all this from my own experience.Good Luck.
please e405 it’s possible to install CM9 ??
No, not this one at least!
thank you so much
Lalit I have just heard about there is one problem with the latest ICS Cyanogen Mod 9 oficiall nightly from 2.3.2013.This nightly have isue problem it can’t be conected on Wi Fi.Do you know why and how to solve this isue problem brother?
Go to /data/misc/dhcp and delete all files and/or wipe dalvik cache from recovery and reboot.
Me personaly don’t have any and none WiFi Conection problems at all.One other user of this model and this ROM has.And He changed this model for NOKIA N8 and thinking to take Sony Xperia Miro.
Lalit you did mentioned to me that I should update(flash)my LG Optimus L3 E400 with the latest device drivers since I use old default stock device drivers. Can you please give me the link and the instructions where I can get the latest device drivers and flash them directly using ClockWorkMod ROM Manager please.
And how to backup my old default Stock Device drivers for just in case that I need them again brother Lalit?
For the flashing using ClockWorkMode ROM Manager. Is it posible that I can update my device drivers whenever I preform the update over the LG PC Suite?
PC suite will work only on stock rom.
Drivers are in PC, no need to backup.
Brother Lalit and the people I have some news for you what I have heard about JB 4.2 Cyanogen Mod 10.1.Here is the linkhttp://www.modaco.com/topic/360662-dev-30-kernel-cm-101jb-42/
And here what I have findout about this matter
Alright, I’m quite inexperienced when it comes to porting Android, but I’m a programmer and I’ve already developed software under Linux, so I’m going to try and port kernel 3.0+ and CM 10.1 or JB 4.2 to our device.
CM 10.1 is almost building, I have to iron out some errors but I think I’ll get it to compile correctly in a few days. However we have no 3.0+ kernel. And JB with 2.6 kernel doesn’t seem too attractive to me.
I’m trying also to port a 3.0+ kernel to our device, and that is the most hard thing to do. You can’t diff stock 2.6 kernel and patch against 3+ kernel because 3.0 and 2.6 kernels are quite different things. Heck, you can’t even use the lge patches against a 2.6 kernel because LG made quite ugly source modifications and hacks after hacks.
So my goals are:
a.) build CM 10.1/JB against 2.6 kernel, to have something to test against
b.) port some 3.0+ kernel to our device
For a.) I think it’s an easy job. For b.) it’s quite hard.
I have three ideas to follow:
1.) use kernel 3.0 from LG L5 / lge 610
2.) use kernel from CAF and add drivers and patches
3.) use regular android kernel 3.0+ from nexus devices and add drivers and patches
I’ve tried 1.), but the boards are quite different, I was able to boot the kernel but got kernel panics. I’ve looked to the source and the code for lge 610 is quite different from the code for e400, board is different and lge modifications of source code sucks big time. If I am ever to decide to hire a former LG coder, I would not. They just fu…cked the kernel source lots of if defs and custom bulshiting with the android kernel
3.) is last idea I will try it if 2.) isn’t suitable for some reasom
2.) is our best bet to have a modern, new kernel for our device and have JB 4.2 CM 10.1 shine.
Code Aurora already has most of Qualcomm drivers in the source tree, I have just to add different drivers for some devices (lots of) not made by Qualcomm.
So I’m trying to pursuit number 2.)
I will probably set up a github for compiling CM 10.1, when I will build it successfully, mainly /device/lge/e400 and /vendor/lge/e400 and modified build scripts. However this will be only to build a test CM 10.1 to have something to test against.
I will set up a github for kernel development, I will start from Code Aurora Forums 3.4 kernel.
How you can help:
I need/we need (if some other devs join in) more info about the hardware. I have lge400 service manual but not all devices are mentioned. I’ve already made a list but it’s not complete.
a.) you are not a developer: if you have stock image and you are rooted, type these in terminal:
#dmesg > /mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt put somewhere dmesg.txt and give the link in the thread
if you are not rooted, install ADB, and type:
adb shell
dmesg > /mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt
exit
adb pull /mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt whatever directory
Upload dmesg.txt to some filesharing and put the link in this thread.
b.) if you are a developer, you can help by identify devices based on dmesg and logcat.
If you are a developer and want to help, download 3.4 kernel from Code Aurora. Try to compile it and add drivers.
I will set up github for kernel and CM 10.1.
By the way I am not doing this. This is for the LG Optimus L3 E400.Here is the name of the developer who prepare for us JB 4.2 Cyanogen Mod 10.1″DeathArrow”.
Lalit maybe you can atleast try to help him about Android 4.2 JellyBean Cyanogen Mod 10.1 for this LG Optimus L3 E400.Good Luck brother.
Lalit I can’t belive how har is it to port CM10 JB to LG Optimus L3 E400 When you start to think about that you will have very heavy hedache.I already have a litle small headche.
