LG Optimus L3 is a new Android phone which has just popped into the market. It is available for Rs.7499 in the Indian stores and is considered to be a strong competitor of LG Optimus Me P350 and Samsung Galaxy Y S5360. LG P350 has a 600 MHz processor whereas Samsung Galaxy Y and LG Optimus L3 have 800 MHz processor so we can consider that LG Optimus L3 would be a competitor of Samsung Galaxy Y because of similar features. In this tutorial we will see how to root LG Optimus L3 E400, thanks to Dan Rosenberg who made a method to root LG Spectrum but the same method seems to work with LG Optimus L3 also. Let use see how to root your device easily.
Prerequisites
It is very unlikely that you will lose any data on your device but if you are stuck at some position you may need to perform a factory reset. Having a backup is good in such situations!
- Back up all apps using ASTRO File Manager. You can get the APK files using ASTRO and later restore it. Rooted users can use Titanium Backup which also backs up data along with the apps.
- Back up all contacts to SD card.
- Backup SMS on Android.
- Backup call log on Android.
- Have minimum 60% charge on your phone else you might get stuck while the update process is running on your device.
- Remove any security or Anti-virus app if you have them installed.
- Enable USB Debugging. This can be don by Settings>Applications>Development and making sure that USB Debugging is checked.

Procedure to Root LG Optimus L3 E400
- Download the rooting script – Windows | Linux/OSX
- Connect your phone to the PC with USB Debugging Enabled. To enable USB Debugging, Go to Setting>Applications>Development and ensure that USB Debugging is checked.
- Execute the file “run.bat” on Windows.
- If you are on Linux or OSX, execute “run.sh” using the terminal.
- Your phone will reboot on success.

I rooted my LG Optimus L3 E400f using this method on arch linux x86, it worked very well. Before doing the root, i tried it under debian linux 7 x64 and the script didn't work (maybe architecture issues?).

ive used this method & it seems to work.. but does this method network unlock the phone? because i tried putting in a sim card from another provider & its not working.. do you know how to network unlock this phone??

i have rooted mine aswell.. and now im wondering how to move those applications in the external sd card… i tried installing "app2sd", "link2sd", and "titanium back up" thinking they were able to move those apps in my external sd card but those applications only recognize the 157mb system memory and 1gig internal memory.. so i can only move those applications in the 1gig which is the internal memory… a li'l help pls,,, i wanna know how ti totally move those applications in the EXTERNAL SD CARD… Thanks in advance…
You can not move all apps to SD card!

I've another question. Memory architecture of LG optimus L3 is as follow.
System Memory- 150 MG, very low
Internal Memory- 1GB
SD card- Expendable up to 32 GB
After rooting the phone, am I able to install all my apps to internal memory (1GB) using link2sd ( or similar apps) ?
To revert back you need to use Superoneclick though I am not sure if it will work (or) you need to flash the stock ROM which will work but I don't know where you can find it.
Yes you get control over where you install apps after you root your phone, though there are some exceptions!

You will have the "Superuser" app installed after rooting.

Hello,i got another question. I found some themes for my Android online[LG Optimus l3 e400], the theme is .apk and in tutorial it's says that i have to install the .apk and after that to reboot the phone,and everythin' it's gonna work,but it didn't,it has the same-old-borin' design.
You must have the theme Chooser app using which you can change themes

Hi. I have a lg l3 e400 and i am trying to root my phone, When i try to run run.sh it doesn't do anything. I had it sitting for an hour and still nothing. Says press enter to root your phone, then read 51: illeagal option -n then says waiting for device. And that is where it sits. Please help. What am i doing wrong?

Try to make a factory reset!
He means: Volume Down+Menu+Power button(Hold until you feel a vibrate in your hand),than release Power Button,and wait with your hand on Volume Down+Menu until you see an Android with an CD case…Then,you can release all buttons.
I did everything you said and is working like a charm.
One thing I would like to add: first, I installed the LG USB DRIVER for Windows from here http://www.lg.com/uk/support-mobile/lg-LGE400, then I did what you mentioned, otherwise it wouldn`t work.

Seriously, I don't know how to unbrick it. You should have seen for which phone the ROM is meant for. LG L3 is a new device and has not seen much development. So you may not find answers on the internet! Tough luck!

Ya I installed the drivers and also enabled usb debugging mode. And connected the phone via USB cable in Pc software option! And I tried about 10 times,.but still no luck!

Okay I'll update you after I try enabling that. By the way the weird thing is that I had rooted my phone a month before using the same method. And then i did a hard reset experimenting with it! Hey when I was trying to root my phone, I found something unusual on my computer. That is when I connect my phone via usb cable to my PC, in the remove external devices list I found out 1.LG usb drive, & LG Ethernet adapter. But I connected it in PC software mode! So I think it might be the problem to the program error:one or more device emulator. What do u think? Is this usual or what? :confused:
When you go to task manager>running services, there must not be any LG software running. Also, there should be no "adb.exe" running. After this you can try to root your phone. Note that while you run the .bat file, adb.exe will start to run on the PC and must not be killed.

Test SuperOneClick 1.7 for root and unroot please.It work for me and it helped me to reroot my LG Optimus L3 E400 for the second time under the latest V10j Stock ROM OS.I did it I have rooted it sucsesfuly for the secon time but I have faced with new unknown thing what didn’t happend to me last time when I had the rooted it for the first time.But now is everything OK with my LG Optimus L3 E400 and I have back Android 4.0.4 CM9.

First go to Settings->Connectivity->Default Connection Mode-> and set as PC Software. And now go to Debugging and now you can select it!

Rooting will not solve this problem, but after rooting you can remove system apps which you don't need and hence free up some space.

You can not move them to SD card unless you have CyanogenMod ROM

When you install stock ROM, your phone becomes like how you bought it. It will not be rooted.
I had a problem with the Telstra Version where I could not select USB Debugging.
To solve the problem I did the following.
First go to Settings->Connectivity->Default Connection Mode-> and set as USB Tethering. And now go to Debugging and now you can select it!
Everything is ok with the root and the apps, but i cant sincronyze the music, everytime i disconnect the phone it just dont load the music, help please

Installing Superuser does not actually root your device. There is an alternate way to do it without the PC but I don't think you will do it. Here it is – Download the rooting script and move the files to your phone. Use the terminal emulator app to run the ADB commands found in "runme.bat" file.

You can try Unlock Root if this doesn't work for you.

External or internal SD Drive?Is this unlock root messing with my boot loader?Because boot loader is I do reminding you is one at the same thing like BIOS for PC Computers,Supercomputers,Workstations and Servers configurations machines.
It is a one-click root app. Just click on root button in the app. It has nothing to do with bootloader.
I think that with Susan's phone some apk optimisation or any other kind of apk have somethink to do with her problem.I have tryed some optimisation aplication andromizer and it did criticaly damaged and slowed down my OS.And I am thanking you like a brother to you brother.We will see is it work.I had some good feeling about this.Now my feel breed much easier when I know that my bootloader is safe.
Before you root it you should update it at the latest V10j.I did and I will root it for the second time to reinstall the latest ICS Cyanogen Mod 9 rom os.Wish me good luck please.

Have you checked the option "Unknown sources" in the settings of the phone and is USB Debugging on? To change the permission from read-only to write, you need to root your phone first
Yes, I have done that – USB Debugging to on and screenlock timeout to 10 minutes. But when when I runt the Root tools its says "Link failed permission denied". Now what will I do? Pls help

Try to unbrick it on lgswiftle.tk german site.you wil find the Stock ROM what is installing just like anyother custom rom and it is under name Xperia Themed.Andd using LG PC Suite with oficiall Stock update you will maybe permanetly unroot it without posibility to reroot it never again.
That is too risky and not safe you risk to lose your android for good if you acendentialy made just one mistake during the process.
Lalit I think you have very little knowledge on this and mainly you are misguiding people which led them brick their phone. There is a proverb "Little Knowledge is Dangerous"
Dude, you need to read all the comments above to see if these methods really work or not. The probability of success does not depend only on the method. It mainly depends upon the person who does it and the software/hardware he has with him. We can not go ahead and personally assist everyone for free and we do not ask people to follow our methods either. It's your phone and you are responsible for whatever happens to it. Also, we post only those tutorials which have been tested and proved working but we can not guarantee that it will work on all devices or machines. If you are technically strong, these methods would be very easy. Regarding my little knowledge – I have tried out most of them and that is why I have been able to solve problems of many people! I have created ROMs as well!

it seems my LG phone's firmware has been blocking the root process. I wonder why LG has put these security issues in the 1st place. My brother uses Samsung Galaxy Y Duos and he had no problem in rooting it. Anyway thanks a lot Bro…keep up the good work.
I have solution I have reroot it for the second time on LG Optimus L3 E400 V10j using SuperOne Click 1.7 on Exploit set it to “ragegainstthecage”and click”Root”after you conect your Android using USB cable and set it to PC Suite USB Debug and etc.And that will root it just like mine Android for the second time for no time atleast for about litle more than 2 minutes.After that disconet it from PC and reboot it.That in the start menu you will see an old version Super User apk installed when you find it update it to the latest what you can find.After you update it than just run it and it will ask you too update and test SU binary just do all that and you are ready for ClockWorkMod ROM Manager and Cyanogen Mod.That is my briefing to you about mine second root under the latest V10j.

This is a very useful site, with clear instructions, but just one question: would you happen to know if your rooting instructions/software works for the L3 E400R which is sold in Canada for the Rogers network? I’ve unlocked mine and now want to root it, but I’m new to this and just wanted to make sure I won’t screw up the phone, and I read somewhere that “the E400r and e400g are msm7625a Chipset, European is msm7225a.” Does that matter?
