As promised by Sony, the company is now rolling out Jelly Bean firmware to all of the 2012 lineup Xperia devices (except a few). After Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia Go, the Sony Xperia Ion is now receiving the Jelly bean update. The firmware version for this update is 6.2.B.0.211. To get this update, you need to go to Settings>About phone>Software Update>System and check if there is an OTA update available. If it is, check if the version is 6.2.B.0.211. For most of you, it will not be available because the update has been rolled out just a few hours back probably in France and some parts of Europe (as you can see from the Screenshots below).
You may also get the update in Sony PC companion as shown above, but again the updates are rolled out regionally and you may not get it in the PC companion too. What’s next? FlashTool.
Update Xperia Ion to Jelly Bean using FlashTool
It hasn’t been long but thanks to the folks at XDA forums for creating a flashable FTF file for the Xperia Ion.
Download the ftf file from the link above and place it in the “Firmwares’ folder found inside your FlashTool. If you don’t know how to use it, you can refer the guide I posted for Xperia P. You need to follow the same steps – put your phone in Flashmode and flash the FTF you downloaded from link above via FlashTool. After you update, you can check your phone’s Android version from Settings>About phone.
